The game appropriately treats its setting with respect, and fans should enjoy the plot. Salvatore, the author of several best-selling Forgotten Realms fantasy novels. Demon Stone features a story from the mind of R.A. The Forgotten Realms have inspired more than a few successful computer RPGs that come immediately to mind, the best including Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate. Stormfront's previous work with the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons license yielded a series of home computer games in the early 1990s, as well as 2001's Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. EA Games' well-received The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, based on the Peter Jackson film, was also designed by the studio. While Stormfront's collaboration with AD&D license holder Wizards of the Coast helps ensure that Demon Stone's rules system is accurate to the pen & paper standards, the focus of this game is squarely on the action.įorgotten Realms: Demon Stone is not the developer's first hack-and-slash console RPG. Most of the statistical arithmetic that drives the combat system is applied behind the scenes. Demon Stone is designed to call on the diverse abilities of each of these three characters, so using the right hero for the right job is an important part of play.Ĭharacters gain experience and new abilities as they progress through the adventure, but Demon Stone players won't spend as much time number-crunching as they might in other AD&D games. These characters represent the fundamental AD&D archetypes: the burly fighter, who can take at least as much punishment as he dishes out the agile rogue, who can pick locks and sneak about for surprise attacks and the resourceful sorcerer, who specializes in a variety of ranged combat spells. The player directly controls one of the three characters and can switch between them at nearly any time. Now the noble characters are honor-bound to make amends, and banish the demons from Faerun once more. By accidentally meddling in an age-old feud between two powerful, demonic hordes, the player's characters have allowed both abysmal armies into our plane of existence.

It's a move that was lauded at the time and could still turn out to be a stroke of genius.īut if Claypool doesn't become who the Bears envisioned when acquiring him, the cost - both implicit and opportunity - will be an early what-if for this rebuild. With DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, and that version of Claypool, the Bears will have one of the top receiving trios in the NFL. If Claypool can recapture his 2020 form, the trade will have been worth it. That's hard to do in the middle of the season, especially when both he and Fields dealt with injuries. It takes time to become proficient in a new offense and develop a real rapport with your quarterback. You're not adding a hard-throwing reliever or a 3-and-D wing off the bench. It's unfair to judge Claypool based on his production in Chicago last season. It's just a final look at the real cost of acquiring him. This isn't a critique of the Claypool trade. RELATED: Bears' way-too-early depth chart, roster projections after draft Given the infant state of the Bears' rebuild, Poles would have jumped at the chance to slide back a few spots, pick up additional capital, and still select one of the top edge rushers.īut instead of finding himself in a position of power - as he would at the start of Day 3 - Poles was among the pack of teams trying to climb the ladder back into the realm of Day 1 contributors. Pittsburgh couldn't strike a deal and instead drafted Porter. The Steelers reportedly received several calls from teams looking to move up, presumably to take Levis. When Day 2 of the draft started, several consensus first-rounders remained on the board, including quarterback Will Levis, cornerback Joey Porter Jr., safety Brian Branch, and White. It's a safe bet to say it would have been had the Bears been able to hold onto their second-round pick.īut the implicit cost to acquire Claypool, or at least the inability to work the price down, also saw the Bears miss out on an opportunity that Poles has shown he's willing to take full advantage of in the draft: Leveraging a pick to acquire more assets. But given how inept the Bears' pass rush was last season, getting help on the edge figured to be a priority. Poles knew he wouldn't be able to fix everything this offseason. Poles called around to try and move into the top of the second round, but the price was too steep, given the amount of top talent still available.Īs a result, the Bears exited the draft without any pass-rush help on the edge. Poles added three defensive tackles, but the second round was his best chance to add an impact pass rusher. As a result, the Bears could not address their edge-rusher need in the draft. Instead, they watched as the edge rusher flew off the board long before going back on the clock with the Ravens' second-round pick at No. The Bears could have had their pick of the litter at No. The day started with several talented edge rushers still on the board, including Keion White, Isaiah Foskey, and Derick Hall. Poles needed to turn his attention to fixing the Bears' putrid pass rush in the second and third rounds. The Bears selected Tennessee right tackle Darnell Wright in the first round at No. The first opportunity cost showed itself at the start of Day 2. 32 overall pick cost them in two ways in the 2023 NFL Draft. But there was no doubt the Bears' second-round pick would be higher than the Ravens'. When Poles made the trade for Claypool, he couldn't have known the Bears would finish with the worst record in the league. There were only 31 picks in the first round, with the Miami Dolphins losing their first-round pick for violating the league's anti-tampering policy. With the Bears ending the season on a 10-game losing streak to finish with the NFL's worst record, the Claypool pick ended up being the No. That cost reared its head last week in the 2023 NFL Draft. It was a hefty price to pay for a receiver the Steelers were trying to jettison, but it was also a sign that Poles was starting to believe in FIelds and wanted to give him more support.īut the decision to send their own second-round pick, and not the one acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in the Roquan Smith trade, came not only with an implicit cost but also an opportunity cost. The implicit cost to acquire Claypool was the Bears' 2023 second-round pick. Claypool is a big-body receiver who should, in theory, give quarterback Justin Fields a contested-catch receiver he desperately needed. I was in favor of the move when the Bears acquired the 24-year-old wide receiver from the Pittsburgh Steelers at the NFL trade deadline. Such is the case of one of Bears general manager Ryan Poles' most significant moves of his young tenure - the Chase Claypool trade. Several more stabs, and the beast will fall. Work your way along its back, jumping over the bony, architectural ridges as you go and clinging on when it tries to shake you off. After a few stabs it's time to head to the next one, which is located on the top of the Mammoth's head, much like the weak spot of the first colossus, Valus. It might be easier to get on foot when you're in a good spot. Get behind it whilst riding Agro and go for them with your bow. The colossus lifts up its hooves to expose glowing green weak spots underneath each one. They're too awkward to reach with a sword - plus there's a real risk of being trampled - but they're easy enough to hit with an arrow. You may have noticed the Mammoth's vulnerable feet - or rather the soles of its feet - with all four of them glowing to indicate the weak spot on the bottom of them. You'll actually need to start off with the bow, rather than your sword. The Mammoth is easy enough to defeat - being the second colossus you encounter it's still something of a tutorial - but there are one or two sticking points to bear in mind.įor one, it can be a little unclear how to strike the first blow. How to defeat the second colossus Quadratus, the Mammoth When you reach it, the next cutscene triggers and bursting out of it will come the Mammoth, known to some as Quadratus. On the bottom level, head towards the natural bridge you just crossed, and on the right, tucked into a slightly shadowy corner is a large sculpted wall. Follow the right-hand fork in the road, which bends down and around to the right, spiralling down to the canyon's lower level. Soon you'll encounter a large canyon opening up, with a natural bridge across it.Ĭross the bridge, and at the end a brief cutscene will trigger. Head out the front and then turn a hard right, going round to the back, north and slightly west of the Shrine itself. In fact it's located just to the north of it, at the bottom of a large canyon. The Mammoth, or just the second colossus, officially, isn't far from the central Shrine of Worship. I like to add a drizzle of salted caramel sauce to these, then serve them warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. (If some do fall out, don’t worry, you can tuck them back into the pie crust after you have placed each tart into the muffin tin.) If you try to do it too fast the apple slices can fall out. When rolling up the pie dough and apple slices to make the roses it is important to go slowly. Thin slices also mean that the peel, which is left on the apples, won’t be tough once your pies are finished baking. You want to slices to be about the same thickness so that they steam in the same amount of time. Otherwise, just work patiently with a sharp knife. If you have a mandoline (affiliate link) that is the easiest way to get thin, even slices. Make sure you let the dough chill for an hour so that it is easier to shape and handle. Gently remove each tartlet using your fingers and a fork. The tartlets will fall apart if you try to remove them while they are hot. Take out of the oven, and cool before taking the tartlets out of each tin cup. Bake at 400☏ for 30-35 minutes, until golden. Gently prop up the four edges of the bottom pastry that were previously left outside of each cup. If the apples have moved during the process, rearrange them now. Place in the pre-prepared tin cup, right on top of the other pastry square.Fold the bottom half of the pastry over the cinnamon paste.Using a spoon, brush half a teaspoon of the cinnamon paste at the bottom of the apples and on the pastry right below them.Make sure the red apple peels are facing out. Arrange 8-10 apple slices along the length of the pastry, on the top third of the strip.Slice it into twelve 1-1.5 inch wide strips. Roll the remaining dough until it is 12 inches at the longest end.Line them inside the cupcake tin, leaving the edges outside of each tin.Roll out one-half of the pie dough onto a well-floured surface. Now you’re ready to make the apple rose tarts, here’s how: Prepare a standard-size cupcake tin and grease it with baking spray, canola oil, or butter. Place butter and sugar in a bowl and cream for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.Īdd cinnamon and starch and mix for a few more seconds until combined. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer the apples for 2-3 minutes. Add the apple slices, cover the pot, then set the pot over medium-high heat until the water boils. (Affiliate link.) Place the steam basket in a large pot and add just enough water so that the water isn’t going inside the steam basket. If you don’t have a steam pot, you can use a steam basket.Place in a strainer and set aside to cool. Steam the sliced apples in a steam pot for approx. Using a very sharp knife, cut the apple quarters into thin slices. Cut each apple into quarters and remove the core. You can make the salted caramel sauce the day before, or you can use store-bought caramel sauce. Before you begin cooking the apples, make the pie dough and set it to chill in the fridge for about an hour. This occurs about 5 minutes after the initial set-up, long after we have seen the joke coming. Nothing.Ī ludicrous amount of effort is put into the first major joke in which 5 cheerleaders are standing in a row, while holding giant fake vegetables, at which point the killer skewers them with a javelin, thus prompting the headline ‘Cheerleaders are Shisk-ka-bobbed!’. To make this point as irrefutably clear as possible: There is One Joke, and One Joke Only in this entire film. This sort of problem is irrelevant in spoof films provided the film itself is actually funny. If he wasn’t technically a love interest, and happened to have a horse with which to ride off into the sunset, he would have no function in the film whatsoever. We cut to his ‘antics’ at several points of the narrative in the vain hopes to make him interesting/relevant, but to no avail. The mountie, as mentioned, is irrelevant to the plot, even in a plot as flippant as this. It constantly derails itself, losing its narrative focus completely and working within the moment in the hopes of producing an immediate laugh. Pandemonium, on the other hand, just can’t decide on any sort of narrative arc. This is a ludicrous scene, but it only appears as such when placed in contrast to the Western setting which, in turn, makes it hilarious. Take the musical number sequence from Blazing Saddles for example. Spoof has a tendency to do this, but in small, concentrated doses. It doesn’t flow with any sort of narrative sense. To say this film has a ‘main’ problem feels naïve. There’s also a Canadian Mountie present for arbitrary reasons and, well, there’s isn’t much more to say because the events of the film are just a mass of incoherent contradictions that defy any sort of synopsis. Taking the generic slasher as its premise (with a dash of Carrie for good measure), we focus on a cheerleading camp that sees its six cheerleaders being killed, one by one, by an unseen maniac. However, it is important to remember that, while Mel Brooks’ reign of hilarity was a golden age for spoof, there were still quite a few duds speckled among the gems.Īn hour and seventeen minutes has never felt so long. When Mel Brooks left the director’s chair, there was definitely something lacking from there on. With the Scary Movie franchise outright refusing to die, it’s pretty easy to make the assumption that spoof hit its lowest point at the turn of the millennium. While standard cars start experiencing difficulties in performance after 100,000 miles, most Jeep models are capable of lasting far longer than that. Let’s take a look at some of the top Jeep models and their average life spans. The Jeep Cherokee comes close and sometimes even surpasses the longevity of Wranglers when they receive years of good care. The most popular and highly enduring of the Jeep models are the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, both of which are built to handle the most dreadful of terrains. They are undeniably the master of rugged terrains, with the ability to take a lot of beatings and still keep going strong for several years. This is a significant achievement and reflects the reliability of Jeeps, especially given the fact that they do a lot of off-road trips as well. Some Jeep models, like the Cherokee, can last up to 20 years with good maintenance and care. So, how long do Jeeps usually last? After some in-depth research, it’s safe to say that-unlike other cars that start having issues after 5 years-Jeeps can easily surpass this milestone and last up to 10-15 years. People who cover long distances or go off-roading on weekends often start worrying as the Jeep approaches a certain age. However, if you use your Jeep to commute to work daily, it’s only natural for you to worry about its lifespan. Jeeps are by far one of the most reliable vehicles for both on- and off-road use.
